I had my thermostat replaced a couple of months ago and since then I have been losing coolant - not much - about a pint every 2 thousand miles. I can see a red stain around the thermostat housing so I'm pretty sure the seal is leaking. As it's only a relatively small leak (at present) can I safely use a radiator sealant (radweld etc) to fix it/make sure it gets no worse.

I would strongly advise against this, it will cause more problems than it solves.
Did you replace the rubber seal with the new housing? (both house + 2 on the transfer pipe)

Yes the seals and housing were new VX parts.

No.
Chances are that you will start having mysterious overheating problems (due to bunged up radiator) and lack of cabin heat (due to bunged up heater matrix and sticking HBV).
The leak may be nothing to do with the thermostat. It could be the oil cooler cover.

I agree that the leak may be caused by another fault. My logic is that it only started losing coolant (and the red stain appeared) after the thermostat was changed.
