Wotcha All.
I've been nursing a slight coolant leak on my '98 Elite 3 litre auto for some 10 months which has got much worse over the last fortnight or so. Now I'm losing about half a pint every 30 miles or so.
With the engine warming up, visible coolant vapour is now escaping from way down on the rear passenger side of the engine. As it's quite low in the engine bay I've not been able to locate exactly where it's escaping from, whether it's a hose/pipe or the engine itself.
Strangely, the visible steam leak seems to subside once the engine's warmed up to normal operating temperature. There's no sign of mayo on the oil filler pipe/cap, no sign of oil in the coolant and a garage did a block test the other day which was negative, which I understand means it's not likely to be head gasket failure.
Can anyone please give me any advice on what it could be?
Thanks in advance. :)

Sounds like head gasket problem as they do this on the rear back passager side alot. replaced gaskets on the v6 due to this more then once.
Where abouts are you?

Another 3 litre, 98, rear passenger HG perhaps..
what is it with this model year :-?

Thanks for the responses guys.
If it's the head gasket it'll probably be game over for the motor.
Could the coolant be leaking from somewhere else? Are there any coolant hoses in the nearside rear area or could it be a core plug on the way out?
By the way, RobseyMV6, I live in Essex mate.
Cheers. :)

That corner is notorious and not just the 3 litres or the 98s either......

my 2.5 was leaking from a o ring that goes on ware the stainless steel pipe that runs over the top of manifold driver side but bolts on under the oil cooler on the back of engine the water on mine was running down on passenger side of bellhousing and i did have a little steam but tuck it off road to fix dont no if 3ltr is the same lay out but might be worth a look
