Title: mpg
Post by: Telboy1 on 31 December 2009, 21:57:59
can anybody help with rough mpg for a 2.6 v6 cdx estate please. I've had the car a few weeks and am very pleased so far. Although mpg was not really a consideration coming from 2.5 v6 mondeo I expected about the same i.e. anything from 25-28 so as I'm averaging about 22 I wondered if it needs anything done to improve it ( bearing in mind its had all main dealer service history and stamps in the book up to 75,000 ). Not really trusting this I changed aif filter ( filthy ) and pollen filter ( full of spiders ) on checking drain holes after reading on here about water ingress. Any help gratefully received thanx.

What type of driving conditions are we talking about here? motorway, urban, combined? how heavy footed are you? etc etc.

Mine is averaging 21, but mostly in quite heavy traffic, round town etc.

This is just a general figure and I'm fairly light-footed ( unless kevcar pulls alongside then give it the beans to leave them in shock & awe ). Anyway as I said its not really a money thing more concerned car is running at its best,  really happy with motor otherwise and it goes perfectly no other queries. Just joined forum and reading through past posts so it will take a while to get up to speed on Omega's.

Your profile suggest auto. If you do a lot of town driving, cars with autoboxes do take a bit of an mpg hit.

I know Marks DTM 2.5 manual was averaging high 30s mpg, but he does have a decent (50m each way) dual carriageway commute

My 2.6 manual does about 26mpg around town.
About 32-33mpg on a long run.
These figures are far better than Mr Dusty achieves,in the same car. :-* :-* :-*

On the above stats my 3.0 must be terrible. According to the trip computer Im averaging 16.7 and it aint shifted since I bought it lol

Im begining to think the computer is stuck. I did a trip to Norfolk on boxing day and due to the weather had a steady run all the way and it still said 16.7 even though I got a lot more miles from the tank!!  ::)

Dont worry about the MPG, just console yourself with the fact that you havent spent £20,000+ on a car thats a bit more economical. £20,000 buys a LOT of petrol :y

It wont change much unless you re-set it

And the inst. cons. figure will just depress you, especially off traffic lights! At least the av. consumption is just that, average since last reset.

Mpg figures sounds a little lower than mine, though.

Is it running at the correct temperature (85 degC) ?

When I switched from my old 2.5 V6 manual to my present 2.6 V6 Auto I was shocked by the fuel consumption. I had been averaging 29 mpg but was only getting about 22 mpg in the 2.6.

Engine wasn't getting up to temperature, changed the stat and saw a marked improvement. Getting 27 mpg now.
