I have a strange problem with my facelift Omega 2001 2.2 16v auto.
It is consuming water. Roughly every two-three weeks I have to add about 1.5 l of water to the cooling system.
Firstly I thought that it is the cap on that plastic container where the water is poured, since it was getting old and the rubber started to disintegrate, I bought a new one but nothing, the water is still disappearing.
Then I went to the official service, radiator specialist and my own mechanic to check for any leaks on radiator or any of the piping. They all sad that there are no leaks whatsoever.
But, I am still pouring 1.5 l every few weeks.
There is no other associated problem (at least I cannot notice any) but I don’t think that it is normal. Something somewhere looses water.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Andor

Is it occasionally difficult to start?
Does it misfire / run lumpy for a while after starting?
-
what colour is the exhaust smoke?

check the HBV for any leaks, black circle unit, left hand side at the rear of the engine

Yes it is occadionally difficult to start.
Yes, it is sometimes lumpy for a while after starting.
How does misfire / lumpines manifest?

what colour is the exhaust smoke?

Favourite places for water loss :
Heater Bypass Valve ..HBV .. rear of the engine looks like a space ship !!!
Oil Cooler ... in the "V" of the engine ... difficult to see
Header Tank..... very small cracks around the filler neck
have you tried leaving the thing idling for a hour whilst looking very carefully ??? that amount of water should show somewhere
Edit : Should have spotted its a 2.2 with 2/3rds of the engine missing :)

Sounds like the head gasket has gone to me, main cause is poor coolant. Open the coolant expansion tank, sniff it, see if smells of petrol :y
