Hi guys.
My 2.5 V6 Elite yr 2000, has twice in the last 6 weeks, come up coolant level on the dash screen.
Around early/start Dec it came up on the screen, so I checked the coolant bottle, it was on the low marking, so topped it up to the max level.
The again this evening its come up again. So around 3/4 weeks after the last one. Its losing around a bottles worth. So not loads admittedly.
Im instantly thinking head gasket or maybe leak on the water pump.
Is there anything else that it could possibly be? Do you think the extreme temperatures would cause excessive use of water? Maybe Im trying to kid myself out of it being something more serious!
Ive done a couple of long trips in the last 2 weeks or so. Well, longish, 100 mile round trip, twice.
I must admit I have noticed a couple of times recently whilst sat in traffic for long periods the engine gets very hot, maybe 3/4 way up the temp guage, or is this normal for these V6's?
Help appreciated/What to look for. Not experienced with these engines!

Check the HBV back of engine driver`s side. Black plastic "starship" with 3 hoses attached, 2 going through the bulkhead

Hoses? Lose?

There's a diaphram inside which perishes causing water loss. About £30 for a new GM by-pass valve

Altering the heater/air-con can often affect whether it leaks or not too. Last year, when mine failed again, knocking the air-con off stopped it from leaking. :y
