Title: DOOR CHECK STRAP CHASSIS FIXING
Post by: oro on 18 January 2010, 13:37:56
Hi all, I have noticed that on my F/O/S door, the check strap fixing on the chassis is coming away. The welds that hold the anchour lug onto the chassis are coming apart.
The lug I mean is the one welded onto the car body, not the section discussed in the maintenance guides.
I asked Vaux if this was a known problem/fix "don't know".
I looked in the mmainenance guides but it's not covered.
The metal behind the welded lug has started to split!
Any suggestions most welcome.
Many thanks

I am afraid this is a very common problem with our Omega's!

Various means can be used to fix, as no doubt others will detail out to you.  However, on my previous Omega the section of metal broke completely away were the strap enters the door, and I just lived with it without any problems! ;) ;)

As for the chassis end of the strap, where you have the problem, then new reinforcement plates can be  bolted / welded into place to strengthen, but as stated before others will no doubt detail how you can do this. ;) ;)

IIRC, the "door" end of ORO's check strap has recently been repaired and hopefully is OK.  ;)

The mounting on the pillar is (badly) spot welded on so it's a welding job to repair it, really, because the rear of the panel is not accessible. Mine is starting to look a  bit weak but I have yet to muster the courage to unleash my welding "skills" on the Omega. ::)
