Title: EML light on
Post by: Erzy on 07 January 2010, 23:02:33
Anybody near Hull with some diagnostic kit, car seems to be driving fine but the orange EML light is on. Dont trust the local Vauxhall as they have proven unreliable in the past. :-[

Also can anyone tell me what the difference between the red car/spanner light and the orange engine light is. I have been led to believe the orange EML is activated due to a fault with emmisions. If so is there any common faults i as a newbie should be aware of on the 2.2petrol. :y

i thought the Engine Management Light (EML) was for the whole engine not just for the emmisions as im constantly getting that light come on due a few issues im having and have had with my mig recently... but then again, i aint a mechanic so i could be wrong  ;D ;D :D :D :D

The car with spanner is for immobiliser or engine electronics ... the engine light is for emmisions .... i wonder if you have the P0420 code for cat efficiency  :-/

Hi,  This issue sound just like the one i have.  The red spanner light resets itself.  The orange light can come on for many reasons.  I have had Vauxhall and an independent specialist look into it.  All vauxhall want to do is change parts at a huge cost.  Campco in Warrington gave me a reason for the light coming on but each time its a different code.  I have now bought an OBD 2 reader from ebay (less thatn £30) so that i can see the error codes that come up for my self.  I reset the light yeserday, P0220 error that is throttle position sensor.  I will see what happens

Sorry for the delay Tigers-Gonads :-[ Had the codes read by Mike @Autovaux the following came up :
P1553 Not titled, maybe something to do with brake booster?
P0420 CAT efficiency
P0170 Mixture rich

So what does all this mean my fellow OOFers ? Also now he has reset the orange EML light the red spanner light has started to come on after a few miles during every journey although it resets if you turn off the ignition. This red spanner light was doing the same prior to the EML coming on yet stopped when the EML was on. Any ideas!!! :-/

Had similar situation on my 2.2 a couple of years ago - spanner light would come on but no change noticed in performance ( although it didn't lead to EML coming on) - cured it by cleaning all the breathers and throttle body - only recently cleaned them again (30k since last clean) as it started happening again - no spanner light since cleaning them  HTH

might be a good idea to give the breathers a good clean and then give it a good blast up the m62 to see if they is any crap in the cat / exhaust  :y

mikes a good lad :y
got too say that, i'm using his ramps to fit my new exhaust next week  :D
