Title: Estate load cover not very good?
Post by: platty on 22 January 2010, 16:28:57
Hi guys,

I seem to be having a lot of trouble with the load cover in my estate.
When I want to remove it I slide it all the way to the rear and it slides out as it should. The trouble is once removed, the bars all fall out of the 2 plastic runner bits and I have to rebuild it every time I want to put the lot back in again.

Do they all work like this or is something broken do you think?  :-/

Regards

Platty

there is a plastic part in side ( runner) with teeth on it have a look and see if it is still there if not that is why it keeps falling out. :y

You've broken it

The latches are knackered in the rail inserts. Look for replacements from a scrapper or ask on here.
There are two types around your year though....look at the 'gear' teeth, they are either straight cut, in-line with the rods or skew cut, at an angle to the rods. You have to find the right inserts.

Well... apologies for the delay in replying, but thank you for the answers - even though I almost forgot about my thread!

So its the 2 plastic inserts that need relacing then... I think it will probably be easiest if I take a photo before making a request in the parts section. AFAIK they are angle cut - but I had better check.

Sort of Mick, but the last 3/4 inches each side is a removable section that the load cover collects in before you remove it. It seems that these have a latch mechanism to hold the cross bars in place when the whole assy is removed - mine are pooped  :(
