I have just recently bought a new windscreen from the breakers yard for my vauxhall omega how much do you think it will cost to get fitted and will a normal garage be able to do it or do i need to take to a specialist.
-
Why did you nnot get it done on your insurance? Would have only cost £50 - £75 then for a brand new one FITTED.
-
I have a £200 excess so it was cheaper this way.
-
Excess for body glass is usually £50-£75.
£200 sounds excessive (ba-doom-tsh!) Check your policy details again. If that is the glass excess you might want to try changing insurers.
-
£200 excess for a windscreen is a bit on the steep side to say the least, maybe for a claim involving a crash(not that I wish this upon you)and subsequent repair. My screen excess is £25 all other claims are to an excess of £200.It may be worth checking with your insurer about the price and if it is correct change at renewal time to a more realistic price for screens.
-
My excess is £200 for a claim, I just assumed it would be the same for the windscreen, oh well I've bought the windscreen now from the breakers for £50.00.
thanks everyone

you will still have to pay to get it fitted and being second hand may crack cut your losses and get the windscreen fitted by the experts will be cheaper in end
-
your policy may not include winscreen cover, but if it does, mine was £70 for my model with rain sensor, but i dont think that matters amyway. It does NOT affect your no claims bonus in any way. Simples.
-
If you look about some places will swap the screen for about half your glass excess too... One or two places do a windscreen swap free too, at least, I know of one in my area that did 2 years ago...
-
Ring auto glass and they will tell you if your covered, my insurer swore blind i didnt have it on my policy, i most certainly did. :)
-
I think everyone is assuming the OP has comprehensive insurance which does usually cover w/s glass with a reduced xs and no hit to NCD. xs is usually in the region of 75 quid in my experience.
Third party does not usually include it.

You will need a specialist fitter to do it. I asked one recently for a price to fit a secondhand screen, he said that as the trims can be difficult to fit correctly he would charge £60.00

If I remember correctly the Omega screen can be a bit of a pig to fit. Mark DTM had issues with one fitted incorrectly by Auto glass or the like. If you are insured I would get it done through them, then If there are any problems you'll get "repairs under guarantee", which you probably won't get fitting second hand glass
