Just checked the car over for the MOT and the Steering idler is goosed :( ::)
May have to replace wishbones too but I think they're OK... Certainly seem OK but it's down to the testers opinion... I don't think there's excessive play but... We'll wait and see ::) ::)
Oh... And I'll stick 2 new tyres on too as they're getting near the limit.
So... I'll order the Idler now (can't remember the best source but I'll look in a moment). Do I put the MOT off by a couple of days as I wont get a chance to do it before next Friday, and change it first or do I stick it in and see if it fails on anything else :-/ :-/ :-/
I reckon I can probably get anything done by the following Monday, assuming it's nothing major, and retest then with no issues. Everything else seems OK, obviously emissions and headlamp aim are unchecked, so should be another years ticket for a reasonable price :y :y :y

This seems incredibly cheap... Anyone had one from them before?

I beleive the <15 ones are aftermarket and in chocolate teapot category.
the £30 ones are worth buying.

this is the recommended one iirc

Thats definitely the one I got and not had any problems with it. Saying that the car has probably only done 100 miles since it was changed! ::) ::)

Ill be ordering one of those myself, steerings not too precise, and it started tramlining.
-
What about this one... Just interested because I need a Cambelt Kit and they supplied my last one... Thinking about combined postage ;) ;)

I'd stick it in, then you know what it needs and you know it will pass second time. if you fix what you think is wrong and then put it in, there could be something serious.

Quick question please.
How much free play at the steering wheel is too much. Mine moves about one and a half inches before moving the road wheels. (Steering lock off and engine not running)
Seems a bit sloppy.
Cheers all. ;) :D :D

Hope you get away without too much needing done LD :y :y
-
Shame you're not nearer, as I have an unused idler here...
-
Stick it in now, then you'll know what you're up against. :y

Hmmm... Off to Portsmouth for the weekend... Trouble is we're coming home via Brighton otherwise I'd have swung by on Sunday ::) ::)
I don't mind spending out for the few bits that need doing, even if it goes up for sale in the next few weeks (hopefully), as the work done, just shy of 12 months MOT, 3 new tyres, tax and LPG conversion will be reflected in the price :y :y

Ordered Idler Monday night from the bay (Vauxhall Parts Warehouse) and it arrived this morning (as planned) so I could try and get it done today before I go to work. That way, I'm not putting it in for MOT with a known fault :y :y
Looked out the window and there's been an inch of snow overnight >:( >:(
Anyway... Went out and got on with it anyway, working through a couple of heavy downpours, as I've got plenty of layers and some veru good waterproofs ::)
Changed it in a fraction over an hour (jack up to wheels down) and would have been quicker if I hadn't been searching for tools :-[ ::)
Anyway, it's done now :y :y
Thought I'd clear the snow off the car for tonight while I was out there... Yep, blizzard now :( Car's covered again
