Title: Torque setting for Autobox sump pan bolts
Post by: billy no mates on 14 February 2010, 13:50:49
Can anyone help, i am looking for the torque settings for the bolts that hold the sump on the bottom of the auto gearbox. I need to buy a torque wrench to do my spark plugs and have seen a cheap one preset to 24nm and don't know if this will do the sump bolts, as i will be doing a gearbox oil change soon. I thought i could kill two birds with one Torque Wrench rather than spend three times the price on an adjustable one.

thanks

According to Haynes sump retaining bolts are 12nm - looks like an adjustable torque wrench for you - try ebay :y

Pre-set torque wrenches are normally found at work where an employee has one task to do at a certain torque, hence a torque wrench that has just one setting.
Unfortunately in some places of work, they make a good hammer or the pre-set torque is massively exeeded cos the employee swings off the wrench waaay after the wrench has 'broken'  ::)  ;)  ;)  :y
