Right, hopefully have all the bits to do the head gasket on my 2.5TD (1999) next weekend.
I have done plenty of hg's in the past but never on a big 6 cylinder diesel.
What should I look out for, are there any common mistakes people make when doing these, and generally any useful info you may have!
Thanks you lovely people.
Wayne

This may sound strange, but in a wierd, sadistic sort of way, im kinda looking forward to doing it. Im under no illusion it won't be a royal pita, but im really looking forward to getting my hands dirty.
Then just got to tax it, MOT it, I know it will need a new screen at the minimum and i'll have to fit the new front pads i've already got. Then i'll have what is quite possibly the nicest car i've owned back on the road.
Who knows, if I enjoy it that much I may even offer out my services ;D ;D ;D

I know exactly what you mean mate, I finished doing mine this morning, after never attempting anything so involved for nearly 40 years! The satisfaction of hearing her burst into life on the first turn of the key is something you couldn't buy for any amount of money! As I said earlier, Best of Luck with it :y

You'll be okay bud, just think of it as an extended 4-pot!

Didn't TB do the HG on this one? What's the symptoms?

It overheated again when Squealey was in shops with engine running IIRC. Not clear why it did or if fans came on?

As said on another thread, the tool to compress the tensioners is difficult to obtain. Thats probably the hardest part, and a right PITA. Ensure when doing this bit that you don't break the plastic chain guides.
I assume you have that PDF on this engine?
