Title: Gearbox oil
Post by: Rog the Dodge on 15 February 2010, 21:22:11
Can anybody tell me what the gear oil capacity is for my 3.2 manual gearbox,it has just started to make a horrible whirring noise in first and reverse and was thinking of dropping the oil out and replacing it with fresh.Hoping that this might help, otherwise i could be in the market for a new gearbox!!!

Less than 2 litres (1.6 rings a bell but could well be wrong).

Go for some good synthetic oil

Yes under 2.0Lt. just fill to filler plug level then take a little out.  Needs to be just under the plug level. Genuine VX is cheap enough. About 4 pounds plus vat on TC for a litre bottle (i think.... its been a while since i bought any) fully synthetic, very thin and pink. Flush with a 3rd bottle

It's 1.2 litres on the 2.5V6.

I have 0.8 litres left over - very useful.....

Genuine stuff is supposed to be the best to use and is about £3 a bottle, or it was.

I don't think it'll cure your problem though unless you have no oil in there. My gearbox oil was fine at 111k miles and didn't really need changing.
