Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone knows if the 2.5td brake discs setup are the same all round? i mean my rear solids are 286mm so will the fronts deffo be 286mm vented? as i have been ebaying the fronts and most are saying the fronts should be 296mm not 286mm? i understand there are ate or lucas pads to choose from, but even some brake pad websites state the spring top type pads fit 296mm discs on front, but according to online automotive they say 286mm all round and front pads are the spring top for my registration.
just incase anyone needs discs and pads, i got my handbrake shoes local approx £10 and rear solid discs and set of pads from fleabay seller planet car parts in yorkshire for £38.99 inc pp and they want £53 for front discs and pads inc pp
thanks

No reason not to, but if you have a Trade Club card, there's no reason not to buy Vauxhall's pads. There's still a choice even then, proper OEM or their Trade Club/pattern pads, but the price for their cheaper pads is around £15 vs £50 for proper OEM pads.
I'm sure Chris will tell you the details ..... over a tin of copper slip (old joke ;))

I got Mintex front discs and pads from Ebay for half the TC Vx price .... never had any problems ... i feel Mintex are a big enough brand to be safe :y :y

Around £80 + VAT on TC
Pattern discs will wear very quickly on the Omega - leading to premature judder. This is the experience of many (including myself) on OOF - false economy!!

so shoot me dead or stable my fingers to the desk for asking but what is a trade card? how do you get one etc? guessing now lol but you have to prove your trade? with vauxfraud dealers ::)

No mate - go onto the Autobahnstormers site and you can get one for £20 - takes a couple of days to come through. Good savings - 4 x 20 lits of GM 10w/40 semisynth oil about £34!!

I chose to ignore the advice here about pattern parts. I tolerated it for about a year, including reskim and replace under warranty, before I stuck genuines back on.
I would recommend genuine every time now, based on my experience.
'Big names' such as Mintex - remember they make reasonable quality stuff, and they also make utter shite. Guess which ones most factors and places such as egay sell ;)

Too bloody right!
Did mine and Markseth's recently - around 100 quid per set each for the genuine stuff.
With the terrain 'round these parts, we don't skimp - simples!

ok can't work this out, online automotive show my motor being 286mm all round against my entered registration, to my thinking the 296mm were for those fitted with 16" wheels, but i may be wrong.
how can i confirm the exact disc size without taking the front disc off?
thanks

The very early 2.0 litre cars had smaller front discs.
Every other Omega has the bigger front discs.
Where are your getting your information? (post a link if you can).
As advised above the best thing to do is join Autobahnstormers, get the card and get trade club price for genuine parts from VX. (and they will sell you the right [296mm] parts)

Your parts man is talking out of his backside. >:( Ask for the manager! >:( >:( >:(
-
as above, parts guy is talking utter 'dangle berries'! >:(
Someone with EPC should be able to confirm part number....
-
just wondered if all vauxhall pad wear wires are the same fitting? just looking at some on ebay for an omega a, seneator etc, they look like mine and i have one frayed and broke one changing the pads today, also the petrol 2.0 look similar, can anyone tell me the part number for the 1999 2.5 td wear indicators please.
thanks rob
-
Right. Lets clear this up once and for all >:(
Front discs are 296mm, not 286mm
They are available on Tradeclub.
Anyone who tells you different is talking utter 'dangle berries'. Tell them so, give 'em the V, and walk away.
2 different types of brake sensor, but the one for the 296mm setup is the one listed as All Models in the TC book (if anyone can provide the part number)...
Avoid 'cheap' brakes (and I include the cheaper options offered by the likes of Mintex etc). 1.7 tonnes takes some stopping. I have have no problem melting good quality brakes in my old chipped TD trying to get rapidly across Milton Keynes. The MV6 does fair better, despite only being slightly lighter.
-
i can confirm the fronts are deff 296mm :y
if anyone can supply me the part number for the brake warning sensor i would be appreciative.
thanks rob
