Title: plenum bolts size
Post by: Bumbazor on 22 February 2010, 19:26:58
What is the thread size for the plenum bolts? I need to get a helicoil set to repair one of the holes in the inlet manifold.

Yup, 8mm they are.
Were I you I would do the lot for good measure. You can even overtighten them with a 1/4" drive short ratchet! The problems are usually down to the correct torque not being applied after reassembly which is why a torque wrench is an absolute must on these jobs. For the sake of a one off cost it will save loads of heartache later.

I wouln't helicoil them all, but I'm not really a fan of helicoils, there are other, better, thread inserts. Why do you need a torque wrench for 'these jobs'? Just tighten evenly & don't swing off your ratchet/spanner/etc, especially a steel bolt in ally, and you'll be fine.
