Title: Auxiliary 12v water pump
Post by: guncharmer on 24 February 2010, 11:44:13
Its the one bolted to the inner drivers wing under the header tank and i believe fitted to facelift MV6`s as  winter pack.
Anyway its leaking coolant, connecting pipes are fine its dripping through the pump body somewhere. I have disconnected the 12v feed thinking if its not operational it may leak less. Joiining the two feed and supply pipes and taking the pump out of the water circuit seems like it would eradicate the leak  and would solve the immediate problem.I dont feel happy about joining these two pipes yet in case the pump operation depends on some other valve opening etc. My guess is the pump is non-repairable so i need another methinks.Did a search and somebody posted the part no.,but cannot find it again,it was something like 902???117.Doesnt look too cheap, obviously a good secondhand one might be the order of the day.
Any advice welcomed,regards.

They don't actually do much, either. I don't see a problem with joining the pipes and removing it until you have a replacement - or even indefinitely. Mine was ditched during the LPG conversion.

and mine was knackered for about a year and it didn't make a bit of difference when I replaced it - I'd just take it out

Thanks for the replies, thew vauxhall dealers in Leeds cant seem to identify it but they think they have the one located around  the radiator.
I got the part no. from it GM 90 566 929 and they dont have any record of that but  list an aux water pump 90 50 9271.(think thats the one by the rad).
Bosch stockists can identify it from its Bosch part no. 0392 020 075 and state it was supplied to dealers only and not available from them.
Reading between the lines i suspect there are none left anywhere perhaps. So secondhand or join the pipes is the way forward.
Anybody got one ?

The folks breaking cars on here will have one or several stashed somewheres.  Worth a PM...   ;)

Cheers, after disconnecting the 12v power supply to it i thought maybe i would not get warm air to the cabin as quick,no discernible difference at all.

If you press the auto button after shutting down, your heating system will keep the interior warm until the block cools.
Very handy when eating your lunch.
That seems to be the reason for the extra pump.
Facelift only I think.

Mike.

Have you tried just nipping up the 4 cross head screws that hold the top half of the pump chamber to the bottom half? Worked for me.

There is a rubber ring seal between the two halves that may need a bit more of a squeeze, or alt. shove some sealant on it.

Was looking closely at it today and its leaking from the electrical connector end,in fact appears to come out of there! Considered taking it apart and will when i have clamped in the replacement. Ordered one earlier from Dave Marshall after contacting him through the car parts section.I will post if i can effect a repair but that end of the pump looks unserviceable to me.

Yep, if the water has leaked out through the motor it's likely to be bin fodder!
