Hi.
2001 Facelift Elite and there is an annoying noise when I first start up the car. It whirs up like a jet engine for about 30-40 secs then stops. This noise is from the front of the car.
I was thinking it might be the self leveling suspension but am not sure if this is rear only. I've heard that compressor go when I load the boot up, but why would it make this noise on the front EVERY time I start up.
Is it cause there is an air leak and it's having to pump up the front everytime I have let it sit?
It doesn't look like it's moving at all tho'. It's very odd and a little embarrasing.

Is it a 2.5 or 3.0? If so, SAI pump, just in front of NSF wheel.

... and you can unplug it, its not really needed :y

Sorry, I really should have put that. It's a 3.0.
And forgive me for asking but what is the SAI pump there for? and

why don't I need it? Is it real easy to spot as it's bugging the hell out of me!
Why would it be doing it? Is it leaking? (I assume it's not repairable...)
If I was to want to replace it would this be expensive? and is it something that any 2.5/3.0 will have so I can just take one off any Omega?

Its secondary air injection pump, it used to lower emissions on a cold startup :y

Its the bearings that fail, making a loud whine. It really is not needed - it was fitted to pump air into exhaust manifold to help ignite unburned fuel in exhaust on startup to warm the cats up faster. Later cars didn't have it fitted anyway.

Awesome. So I'll just get under there and unplug it. Sorted. Easy fix. Thanks guys.

Well I'm gonna sound dumb here. but can someone tell me EXACTLY where it is and how to get to it to unplug it.
I don't actually know what I'm looking for and where to look.
Thanks.

It should look a lot like this:

Just in front of the nearside front wheel, see it from under car. If you park up with nearside wheels on a kerb, you should have room to get your head/arms under there from front.

Sorted! yeah. It now doesn't sound like I'm taking off every time I start it! Thanks all.
