Title: battery question

hi bought a new battery about a month ago, came with a small red bent tube, the battery has a small red plug in top side, do i replace red plug with bent tube, and if so do you face tube up or down. someone told me its a breather so that the battery doesnt get to hot ?

Some have a small tube that goes into the vent to vent any nasties downwards....
