hi i have an 1998 omega 2.5td,the problem is when im driving and lift off the accelator to change gear the engine cuts out and managment light will come on for a second if i give the accelerator a little pump it kicks back into life and the light goes out,please help its doing my head in, had this problem for years now

Do a paperclip test. I think this is going to come up code 64 .I dont know what the problem extactly is put posssibly be injection pump. :-[

Agreed, but how much diesel is in the tank?

I get it occasionally when going up slip roads onto dual carraigeway, but, only when I had less than about 15 litres of fuel in the tank... Clutching at straws a little, but, when was the diesel filter last changed/bled...

my tank is never less than half full,say i pull out of a junction in first i lift off the throttle to change to second as i put my foot back on the accelerator the car will just shut off,eml will come on so i take my foot off the accelerator and back on and itll kick back in,i heard about something to do with some kind of sensor on the accelerator??? fly by wire?????

I`ve got the same issue with my `96 omega 2.5td. It first started doing it as i was shifting from 1st to 2nd gear but now it can happen anytime. There`s a big smoke behind me as i drive up the hill. I told this story to my mechanic over the phone who suspected the air mass flow meter. As i was looking for it on ebay i found this;
Common symptoms of a faulty Air flow meter (AFM) are:
Poor idling
Cutting out when the engine speed drops (approching bends, roundabouts etc)
Loss of Power
Excessive Black Smoke
A diagnostic machine will sometimes point out the AFM is faulty, however, not always.
So this must be it. 70 quid. ;)

Easy test - unplug MAF, see if it runs better ;)
