I need a few things doing on my car, 2.5v6 1998. Its not the tidiest of motors but has been reliable and because of the body work I don't want to spend much.
Can anyone recommend a mobile mechanic or garage in Derby or Burton-on-Trent area?
1. Exhaust seems louder so I guess there’s a hole somewhere.
2. Car has started to pull to the right, pair of wishbones?
3. Handbrake broken, suspect cable.

Don't we all? :(

Can't make recommendations re garages but....
1. Take the car to an independent exhaust centre, who will likely patch it if that's what you want. I have done this in the past, when finances dictated.
2. Not sure about this one, but are your tyres ok for starters?
3. I have just changed the cable on my car, but you would need to make sure which part it is. What makes you think it's broken? My cable had seized and so it was the rear portion needing changed. If I can do it then so can you. It's not difficult as long as you can get the car off the ground onto stands, and don't mind crawling about underneath.
You're in the right place anyway for help and advice.
Good luck :y

Been two a couple of garges today, so I could get them to lift it up in the air and have a look myself.
Outcome - Not Good :(
Exhaust is finished, may even require new cat's as the joints are rotting away and look like they would break up on removal of the rest of the system.
Bushes in the wishbones looked worn so I guess a pair would be required.
Handbrake cable needs replacing.
Decided to sell the car as its not worth spending money on it - spares or repair sale.
Been looking at a facelift model (2001MY) with 82k on the clock with full servie history and only two owners.
Its from a garage and they want £1800 with warranty. Its a 2.6 v6 CD model. Is it worth the money? Condition is very good with no rust anywhere.

You could haggle the price down a bit but sounds like a reasonable price. Make sure you see the service history as cambelt kits are due every 40k (that's the belt, tensioners and water pump), so at 82k the next will be due assuming the first change was done on time and a second hasn't been fitted.
If there is no evidence of an 80k change then take £300 off the price to budget the cambelt kit.
Also how much MoT has it got?

water pump are only suggested as you're almost there when you're doing the cam belt, but is not required like it is on a 4 pot. :y

Thanks for all the help........ :y
They are putting a new MOT on the car and they have every car that is sold RAC inspected. Cambelt wise I have asked for proof of replacement so the balls in their court. The sales chap said it’s in their interest because if the cam belt fails the warranty people will not fork out and they are left with the bill to put right. Quite a nice family run garage and not the normal pushy sales tactics.

I thought that of my local Vx independant, I've now changed my mind on them. Won't use them again.
Who are they, might know them?
