Hi
How do you know that the cam belt is okay, you cannot see it without dismantling some of the covers.

Have you just bought the car?

If it jumps one or two teeth on the cam sprocket you lose compression and the engine loses power or fails to start. (probably no nasty noises)
If it jumps three or more (or snaps) then valves hit pistons and it gets messy. (probably with nasty noises :()

yes i got the car three weeks ago does this mean that the car is knackerd i hope not :'(

No one can tell from the info so far supplied!
You need to let the experts on here know exactly what is happening, with code readings and details of warning lights or not as per previous requests. ;) ;) ;)

Thats a shame, if it was this side I could have nipped over and had a quick look but i'm stuck at the moment ripping plaster of the walls and ceilings at home. If you can leave it a week I will be able to get over then.

hope not left it in works yard i drive an artic for a living so it should be safe in the works yard :P
-
I'm confused ... (not difficult) you say the engine is "turning over" but with "no compression" .. what are you basing this on ???
When you get someone turn the starter motor can you actually SEE the bottom pulley turning ?? This will PROVE the engine is "turning over"
You say the cam belt is OK .. do you mean the belt to the alternator ?? which is the auxiliary belt NOT the cam belt

but doesn't show the cam is turning. ;)
Is it possible to see the cam via the oil filler cap? That would show the cam belt isn't snapped (but not whether it's jumped a tooth or three. :y

Tha cam belt lives right at the fron of the block under a cover behind the auxillary/fan belt.

Agreed .. but I thought a step by step approach might help ... lets just confirm the starter motor is actualy turning SOMETHING ... :) then we'll work out what !!!
-
i will check that in the morning thanks to everyone for the help ;)
-
checked car again starter turning faster than engine so there must be no compresion is this the end of the car or will i be able to get it sorted out
-
