Hi all,
I've got the above model and the auto gearbox has broken. I'm not sure what model gearbox is in the car. I have the parts from a manual 2.5td GLS available to me. My question is, how easy or difficult is it to change an auto box, and whether I should bother to get a second hand auto box or should I just do a manual conversion on it and if so, how much more complicated is that? will i need a manual ecu etc and does it matter that the two models are CDX and GLS?
thanks,
Ali

go for the manual conversion, then you can chip it back to full BMW Spec :y

For the manual conversion is it ok to use the parts from an GLS model, and how hard is it?
how much time etc?

Spec is irrelevant, if its come from 2.5TD thats all the matters, never done a manual conversion myself, so not sure on time. :-/

or if you prefer the auto, fit an AR35 g/box & then you can chip it & itll be less work. ;)

if you got all parts for coversion , can do in one day
max two days , not really hard job, done myself other week but on 3.2
if you go for swap auto box I got one AR35 here

as others say, dont put ar25 back in, too weak.
Personally, I would prefer a manual TD to an auto one, moreso when chipped. But each to their own
