Whats the recommended timing belt interval on a 2.6 01 model,i have just bought the car 3000 miles ago and has just over 130000 on clock,it was an ex fire car and i'm assuming it was well serviced,no history tho... i will be replacing the full kit, does the water pump give much hassle on these models... cheers

40k miles or 4 years, which ever is first. Replace both the belt and tensioners, worth replacing water pump too :y

40,000 miles or 4 years ... whichever is first.
It is not the belt itself that fails .. but the tensioner bearings that collapse, this causes the belt to become loose and a very expensive conversation takes place between the valves and the pistons.
No ifs or buts .. 40,000 or 4 years.

Always change the water pump as a failure will scupper the cambelt as well and leave you back at square 1.
And you may as well change the aux belt at the same time. :y

Not really, water pump is aux belt driven on V6, you will loose alternator, power steering and air-con, and damage few other things if the belt lets go in big way, but cam belt would remain ok.
The water pumps have plastic blades, so if they do self destruct they just don't move water

Cheers dudes, will change it all this weekend,i'll just change the aux belt and tensioner as well,at least give me a piece of mind

I've not seen any plastic blades on a V6 they've all been metal but know the diesel can have plastic ones
