Title: Re:TD Electric Fans
Post by: 350sb on 10 April 2010, 16:50:01
Hi,

The 2 electric fans in my Omega have been unplugged by the previous owner. The BMW engine has it's own fan.Are the electric ones aircon related or does it provide a source of additional cooling? If it's for cooling, where is this plug meant to be fitted?

Traktors have 2 electric fans & a viscous coupled one attached to the engine
Some beleive that the viscous is superflous & remove them (LH thread BTW). I have removed mine but will need to monitor the temperature when the summer comes because Traktors seen to het up very quickly in traffic or when pulling hard.

plug them in but mind these fans are connected to the air-con system when it gets hot 90+ the fans kick in to fast running
If the air-con isn't working don't remove the viscous.

very strange to disconnect them if you ask me, unless they were constantly running, in which case id change the sensor/switch on the rad which is on the right side near the top as you look from the front. the viscous fan isnt known for reliabilty.

It looks like the aircon compressor along with it's bracket was removed by one of the 8 previous owners.I did remove the plastic panel above the radiator and didn't find any condenser, but there is an aircon switch on the control panel. :y
