Title: Towbar spacers
Post by: mantahatch on 12 April 2010, 18:46:14
Does anyone no the size of the spacers on a tow bar bracket. The spacers I am refering to are the ones that fit through the boot floor area near the diff.

Thanks

Mike

Further to my above post _ I'm pretty sure H1  are the one's you want - I'm also presuming it's for a saloon as estate is different:y

It won't matter what make, as they're doing the same thing no matter what make of bar. They just ensure you're bolting to the actual boot floor & not squashing the chassis leg.  :y

I used some tubing from an engineering works and cut it to size - 10cm long, from memory. Think the OD is something like 2.5cm. Got some left somewhere if you want it?

Just noticed you're near Southampton. I'm in Eastleigh a couple of times a week so dropping it off shouldn't be a problem.

You want the bore to be as small as possible really. If it's too big, it'll tend to try to dish the boot floor as you tighten the bolts ie it'll try to pull the bolt head though the tube & dish the floor, same with the plate/penny washer at the other end. You need a tube that will allow the bolt to compress against the end of the spacer.  :y

Guess he could always push the pipe up there and mark it before cutting. I've the witter diagram on my other computer. I can dig the pdf out and check the length if need be.

As long as it's deeper than the chassis leg.  :y
