Title: Exhaust Manifold Heatsheilds
Post by: amba on 15 April 2010, 11:27:22
I am almost convinced that my passenger side exhaust manifold or gasket ?? is causing a leak as every time car is started from cold seem to get a ticking noise until engine warms up.
On closer inspection this morning it seems that 1 of the heat sheild bolts is missing and am wondering if this would cause a "blow" if the threaded hole in the manifold was tapped down into the flow of the exhaust.
Does this seem logical or is the missing bolt just  nothing to do with it ?

i doubt it would blow? my first omega didnt have any heatsheilds left. , is it loose if a bolt is missing? perhaps the shield itself it rattling until it expands under heat and stops itself??

Good thought,I must admit I could see why it would blow if a bolt was missing, but unsure if threaded hole went right through.
Will get a few spare bolts and see if it improves if it is secured better...but didn,t seem to have any movement so might be thermal expansion and all that .

They are blind holes so would not cuase a blow if bolts are missing
