Title: Still revving up!! Arrrgghhhh!!!
Post by: Smooth on 10 April 2010, 21:19:18
Hi folks,i have today spent nearly 3 hours at my mv6 and it still nae better.I have cleaned throttle bodies, taken of plenums, cleaned all the breather pipes, checked all the vacuum pipes, cleaned spark plugs, checked all cables and connections and it still has a mind of its own, when i touch the pedal it rises to around 2000/2500 revs and sits there for around 10 secs then drops to idle at 600rpm,anyone any ideas what this is as its doing my head in!! when slowing down to road ends it revs up and when changing gear it sits around 3000rpm,seems like throttle sticking... i have only acces to snap on solus which doesnt really give any depth in live data,it drinking the fuel too... help me please before i go mad and sign meself in!!

no icv or egr, what is the electrical unit on the side of the throttle body,is there anything mechanical in there to be cleaned?? Not showing any throttle faults etc on computer, only fuel trim fault but this is due to cats being removed

is it an air leak somewhere, or perhaps a dicky non return valve for the servo :-/

I'd be using a family size can of carb cleaner under the bonnet while it is idlin'g.

Sounds like an air leak to me.

classic air leak symptoms in my experience, but then i've no experience of drive by wire issues, no fault codes i take it?

How far down did you strip it? need to go down to the seals under plastic wedge in the v and work back from there if there's nothing obvious, but sounds like you've already done that, back of the main vac pipe from to plenum is classic for waring through on the air con pipe next to it, any hissing dieing out after the engines stopped? any hisding at all come to that?

I'm gonna go round her today with carb cleaner, see if that makes any difference, does seem like an air leak, would there be anything sticking in the throttle position sensor, its the only thing i didnt open, any mechanical in there that needs cleaned??

The car was revving up for a while, then missing and backfiring, put on comp and tps faults showed, after a day the car would not start, put the new tb's on and still nothing... getting loads of fuel,no faults shown, done actuator tests on pump and tps,all good... car grinding and firing, keep grinding and it nearly goes... good compression etc, could it be the crank sensor... seen this before with no faults showing and it being that... am going mad here,tb's cost me 333 squid

I think you must see some other codes stored with p0200 and p220..  :-/

anyway, from some old info I know it can be tested with voltmeters.. let me check..

here is some info
http://www.ehow.com/way_5471047_do-check-crankshaft-position-sensor.html

and another way to for checking it,

pass some ferrous metal very close crank sensor to it and check the voltage jump..

Just a quick update folks... went to check the cs sensor today and there was 2!! somebody replaced it before and just left the old 1 there, took out and cleaned,no difference, stripped of plenum again and checked everything... all ok... tried towing the car and it nearly started slightly... turned car over and started running but missing badly and backfiring like a wild bore on the job... next thing i disconnected something and the car run 100% and is going better now than ever before...
3 guesses to what it was...
