When out today the temperature which normally sits about 95 kept creeping up around the 100. As soon as you accelerated it went back down. Then the top hose blew and water leaked all over. Could this be the water pump, hbv or something else?

Are the fans coming on?
Is the aux belt in tact?
-
my old 2.5 did the same and just after that the oil cooler failed.
-
We changed the oil cooler in september the fans come on and the belts are fine
-
Blocked rad?
-
air lock?
-
We have changed the thermostat and water pump and fitted a new top hose. We flushed the radiator through while still on the car. The temp is sitting better now just below 95 but still rising at times. Do we need to take the radiator off and soak in something or is there something else that could be wrong.

I got temp problems after oil cooler change and the only thing solved the problem was to replace the radiator. Iflushed it many time with no results.

I have a very similar problem to you , and i suspect that the radiator fan switch is not switching the fans on to high speed when the temp starts to rise above 97dg. So i have just got a new switch to fit to see if that cures the problem. Will report back. Watch this space as they say. ;D

the rubber pipes dont like hot engine oil in them, thats the reason they fail after an oil cooler problem. i have flushed systems thru with washing up liquid to try and absorb and clean out the oil a few times(1.7 td combos)the oil will sit in the rad galleries and reduce flow.

i have the same problems i know its not the fan as i noticed there was oil residue in the header tank when i bought the car i have a feeling the cooling fins of the rad are blocked not allowing the water to cool properly i have noticed if i stop the car for 5 mins then turn the ignition on the temp is very high but drops straight back down when its started i did clean most of the residue out with some washing liquid
the rad ideally needs soaking in some acid for an hour but what i dont know
