Hi guys, (oops!! and girls).
Haven't been on for a while but have a wierd problem with my mig. Twice this year I've had to top up the ATF in the auto gearbox, both occasions taking close on 5 litres. No leaks anywhere, driveway is bone dry, under the car is dry. Topped up with engine running and on a flat surface, mates garage ramp. Has anyone any idea where the fluid could be going? Even a local autobox specialist is baffled.
Cheers all,
Steve :y

Is the breather connected and correctly positioned?

Yep, had a mechanic friend check it while he topped it up, it has done his head in.

5 litres?
suprised your getting any drive at all. Empty both sumps and you'll need to put...6 or 7 back in perhaps?

Still no joy folks :( This one is a real puzzler.

whats the history with this? has the box been serviced to your knowledge? how did the problem become apparent? has it been refurbed or re moved from the car? etc.

I've had the car 12 months now, just had the 3rd top up (nearly 5 litres each time), looked in history file and nothing there about any gearbox work. No signs of a leak anywhere. Doing my head in :(

Where can you lose nearly 15 ltrs of AFT oil to.
It's got to go somewhere :-/
Take the sumps off, but be careful of over 20 ltrs gushing out :o :o :o

Lol, if there was that much in there it would come out of the fill hole when I took the plug out. I really haven't a clue, autobox plays up so I get it topped up and it's then ok again, God knows where it is going, got loads of us stumped :(

well as i see it there is only a few places it can lose atf, the bellhousing oil seal, the oil seal around the selector shaft, the oil seal on the tail of the box where the prop flange is or the sumps, now this might sound daft but is there any way the breather has been connected to the vacuum side of things?, im wondering if its getting sucked out & burnt & you may not notice the slightly white smoke from the exhaust, i had this happen years ago on a granada that was losing atf, it turned out the autobox vacuum unit stopped working so the fluid was sucked out, i know the miggys dont have that set up so thats why im wondering if the breather has been connected instead of just floating about. :-/,,,,,,,i take it your radiator is o,k on the g/box cooling side. :-/
