hi to you all, can you help? just bought omega 2.2cd 2001 about a hour ago but on way home a light on dashboard came on its yellow and after looking at book its the one with spanner on and at same time as come on gearbox played up lost gear revved up as not in gear then went into what i think is limp mode. i stopped a few hundred yards down road turned off and the restarted car it was then ok but a couple times although light did not come on its felt as though gears slipped and the rectified itself, has anyone any ideas? many thanks, brian

As it's a 2.2 you'll need to get the codes read off the ECU to pinpoint the problem. Where are you located? We have a lot of members with code reading capabilities.

hi thanks for quick reply im in glenrothes fife scotland thanx

You lucky lucky fella! One of the admins (Hotel21) is in Fife and has a genuine vauxhall Tech2. Try dropping him a PM (personal message) :y

thanks for that will do many thanx

Proz - what was the error code that your lambda issue threw up? Brian collected the car today and it was on fumes and filled up, I think, at Tesco in Cupar. Threw a fault shortly thereafter....
-
I think from memory it once gave a P0130 lambda... although i reset it and it never came back .... this was when i was getting the P0170 and P0420 as well .
Although i reset the lambda code and it never came back :-/
-
I did get a P0700 MIL request from Transmission Control (TC) Module when my cam sensor went but i cant find anything else like 0703 or 0730 .... :-/

thanks for your help anyway many thanks

P0703 Torque Converter/Brake Switch B Circuit Malfunction
P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio
:) :)
-
Cheers peeps. Codes cleared and hopefully, not to return. If (and when?) they do, they will be fresh and we can take it from there. ;)
-
thanks to all hope not torque convertor will keep a eye on thanks again
-
morning all, the saga continues car done it again driving along light came on car lost power went in to limp mode only had 3rd gear got home and now cheezed off. if it is code p703 torque convertor does anyone know roughly how much to rectify this problem?
many thanks :(
just to add the only other strange thing as if i needed more is that it aslo says on computer screen check brake lights ,but they seem fine.

hi all!
just a update:
as you seen i again had probs today, this evening had codes checked by hotel21 and codes shown were P1700 AND P0730.
can i ask the experts amongst you to help me in my endevour to have a omega to drive with pleasure.
since i only got car 36 hours ago im a bit put off by them.
many thanks for you help. :(

P1700 - rich or lean exhaust
P0730 - Incorrect gear ratio
The latter is often a sign of a buggered thrust washer in the gearbox.....but ensure the oil level is correct.
P1700 can be raised by a few things.....MAF reading at idle would be useful.....also make sure the breathers and throttle body are spotlessly clean
-
many thanks for that will try find someone to do that as my mechanical skills could be written on postage stamp do you know any members in fife that can take on this task? thanks again
-
change your atf fluid if its done more then 60000 or been driven harshley or used as a tow vehicle the fluid will be dying and could be contaminated best way to clean auto box is to flush 25 liters of dexron 3 through it and top up to correct amount
-
Big Bri is away with best part of a gallon of Fuchs ATF and my Aldi special pump sprayer to ensure the level is tip top. Will have a recheck of whats what after we know the fluid level is spot on..... ;)
-
will my omega live or die ?
atf oil changed today thought better go to garage to get it done with the fluid from hotel21, but after leaving the garage got about 1/4 mile and away it goes again. boy am i cheezed off, now after speaking to vauxhall they recomend me going to tayside transmissions in dundee. i called guy seemed ok think its definetly to do with fluid level, but i cant seem to get the right people to do it the right way, tayside trans can't get into late next week. is there any vauxhall mechanics out there around fife that can fill the autobox the correct way as described ?
if there is please give me a shout many thanks and have a good day!
-
the saga continues, the car back from tayside transmissions today fault code p0730 still showing and car does run slightly better but still has problem, transmission ghear ratio problem . any ideas where to go now ?
many thanks :(

A number of us trying to get to bottom of this one - it may be to do with whatever component/circuit sends the engine speed data to the gearbox - see link below - do not know of differences between 3.2 and other models on this.

I was going through the same problem. Friends 2.2, same fault codes. Every mechanic different opinion.
P0730 - lean mixture. First, he was told that it should be a MAF. It wasn't. Then he was told that it's a lambda...guess? Yes, it wasn't a lambda. My first guess was that there must be additional air getting through after the MAF. I have cleaned the throttle body. Small breather was completely blocked, so this stopped an oil leak from the rocker cover. Engine was running smoother, but still not right. And there was this whistling sound (air leak?), so I decided to remove the intake manifold. After removal it was found that two o-rings on injectors were missing!! This solved that problem.
P0370 (+P0748 Pressure Control Solenoid Electrical) - first we though it was caused by the engine fault but it wasn't. I got two solenoids (main pressure and TC lockup) but during removal of the small sump we have found remains of the thrust washer... :( This means his autobox has to be dropped and repaired/replaced. Do you know anyone located south who's got a facility to do it? He wants to pay for it.
