Title: Plenum questions ........
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 07 May 2010, 19:33:05
Hi,

I've just spent a happy hour (or more) taking off my Plenum ('99 3.0) in prep for cam covers, breathers etc.

I can't get the throttle cable off! I've removed the ? shaped clip, but the bulb shaped end wont come off its rest. I've tried prising but don't want to damage it.

Any ideas?

Tomorrow evenings session will probably start with a  screwdriver on each slide rather than just the one.

Also, I've just leant the removed plenum on its side and am now looking into the 6 holes. They look really oily inside.  :-/ Is this normal, or symptomatic of the breathers and should I clean the inside as well when I do the breathers/throttle body/ICV etc.

Thanks .............

do you have cruise? there are two clips then, but if the thicker U type clip is off, the ball will pop off

Yes, have cruise, but surely you have to remove the outer one (throttle cable) before the inner cruise cable? Unless of course I'm wrong!  :'(

No your right outer one goes first the one like a bent paper clip, thats the easy one.

Next is the U shape one, i use flat head screwdriver to push it out. Worth putting hand behind it, as the both of them usually go pinging off at 1,000 mph.

With both off, the ball will pop off, been there myself, it feels like it will break but it will pop off, rotate it down slightly, and push down as you pull  :y

Sounds like Tunnie hasn't done many ::) ;D.... Rob I have seen a few myself where I have thought the throttle cable was going to break. The easiest thing would be to leave the throttle cable attached and sit the plenum over the Coolant Reservoir :y

The other thing is check to see if a "Bent Paper Clip" has broken inside before someone has fitted another....

Hope that makes sense :y

If you ever get the cup off the ball, you'll see that there is also a wire clip inside the ball, it's this that actually locates the cup. The ? clip you've already removed is bit of belts & braces. Because it'll have been assembled with no lub at all, the inner clip rusts & won't allow the cup to pull off the ball. It will come though, you might have to be a bit ...er .... forcefull  :y
Assemble with a bit of grease.  :y

Noted, that was probably done at the last (first) cambelt change when she was 8 years old!
