Title: Damn Car Broken Down Again
Post by: mark.adams on 10 May 2010, 09:44:02
Any ideas?
Suddenly lost power, wont rev above 2K with foot flat to the floor, no smoke, engine sounds a bit rattly, no warning lights/MID codes, doesn't matter whether in gear or not, only does 10MPH MAX, as soon as you meet an incline it struggles to climb it. Odd hot smell from outside the car, exhaust sounds a bit throaty.

Gas or petrol?

Hot or cold?

Gas and petrol, both the same, went just before it got up to running temperature. When limping back home, it didn't overheat, plenty of oil and coolant in it as checked those at the weekend.

Might be the same as mine was.

All the horse hair stuffing clogged the back box.  Driving along normally, bump, all of a sudden no power.  would trickle along as normal, as soon as it was asked for power it seemed to go in reverse.  Kink down worked fine, but no power.

My attidude became the kill or cure mood (very silly when you find out what happended)  I merged on to a long straight road, booted it and flicked it it sport mode, it took what seemed and eternaty to go through 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and tthen all off a sudden the car had an allmighty bang, back end went down, front end when up, in what seems like four seconds I was flat out in 3rd and there was a wall off brown/yellow dust that had been blown out of the back of the car.

The back box had been split wide open down the seam as the horse hair had been blocking the back box.

Still havent changed the back box.  ::)

Just take the back box off, cut the pipes either side of the back box and weld in a straight through tube, it'll sound 'throaty' then ;)
