Title: Booked the 2008 hols....
Post by: hotel21 on 31 December 2007, 21:40:36
Just done the invasion plan for France and Spain 2008.....

Dover/Calais ferry for £90 return, Travelodge room on outbound and inbound for £50 the pair, plus £200 for fuel for the 'Meega to/from there from Scotland, but not including continental fuel.

Saved circa £200 rather than travel from Hull, but a whopping £550 from Rosyth.  Timewise, I think we lose roughly 12 hours travelling but, otherwise, end up on top.

Worth looking for the Travelodge £9 per room deals here (http://www.travelodge.co.uk/index.php?gclid=CNKJy8q-05ACFQVFMAodi2_wPw) in case theres something that suits your plans in summertime 2008.......

having the vacation with the self car is my preference too..

I hate rushing after fix times in the vacation..I must be able to stop and eat, sleep  where I want ..

By the way if somebody want to come in here (too far for your miggy  :-[ ) I'll do a serious search on hotels and prices in spring  and I'll list the options here..

Me and her have done the self tour/camp thing in Europe for the past handfull of years.  Its a hoot and much more fun, to us, than a package tour to somewhere....  yes, more costly but more fun chasing the sunshine and leaving the annoying neighbours and kids behind....

[/victor meldrew mode....   ;D  ]

ps - sounds good Cem.  No doubt someone will take you up on your very kind offer....   :y

Cunning plan at the moment is to head again to the south of France but to also head onwards into Spain to visit Barcelona for a time as well...  Apart from that, anything is possible!!

Given the frequency that you drive across Europe etc, do you feel it may be worth investing in an LPG conversion? I Hear it's very cheap on the continent.

Never use a Travelodge as they over book their rooms and at busy periods you end up with no room if  arrive late.

They claim other hotels do the same - not sure they do.
