bumped for replys from page 2

water out the exhaust is not unusual in itself, esp if alot of short journeys.

Any other symptoms?

He means the EML ;)

Are you losing coolant? is there any oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil?, any smell of exhaust gas or petrol in the expansion bottle? Have you checked the HBV? Have a look through the Maintenance Section and aquaint yourself with the relevant parts. :y

does it loose coolant?

There is no such thing as 'exhaust' light, can you describe what it looks like?

It certainly does sound like the H/G has gone then! :(
On the plus side, there is plenty of room to work on the 2.2 & the job of replacing the H/G is pretty straightforward if you have a decent set of tools and are mechanically minded. A couple of members have done their own (including myself) and the general consensus is it should cost around £150 to DIY  :y

If it's the emissions lamp thats on (picture of an engine bizzarely enough) then the catalytic convertor may be damaged.

If the cam timing isn't right, I'd have thought that could easily affect emissions.  There are lines on each of the cam sprockets that line up with lines on the front edge of the camcover, then (on our 2.0, guess it's same on 2.2) there's a notch in the crank pulley that lines up (at TDC) with a peg that sticks out from behind it.  Get all three of these marks right, and the cam timing is right.  :y
You can buy a plastic wedge for about a fiver that locks the two cam sprockets, which will make any adjustment much easier if you're DIYing it.
