I have a mint 2003 Omega Estate 2.6 V6 CDX Estate which I would like to have converted to LPG.
There is a bewildering choice of systems and prices out there.
Can anyone offer advice and recommendations on the best systems/installers?
I live in the West Mids/Warwickshire area.
Many thanks...

DIY, its scary some of the things 'professional' installs do such as drilling and tapping injections with the manifold in place :o
Stag Kit is well used here, on both 4 pots and V6's, it works well!
-
tunnie I agree with you, there are a lot of bad installers. Hopefully someone will recommend a good one.
I have heard good reports about the Stag system, and OMVL and Landi
DIY?
While I am OK with a set of spanners, I changed the timing and Aux belt myself I am more than a little reluctant to undertake this job.

If you can do a cambelt, you have the nouse to fit LPG, if you take your time and research it ;)
-
If you buy the stag system there are quite a few members on here who know plenty about it and will give you plenty of advice. There are also how too threads with pics etc,
As Tunnie says there are plenty of horror stories about "professional installs, including drilling manifold in situ, which would ruin an engine after a while. :y

DIY definately - there are a few in your area who have done it

The more me thinks about a DIY job the less appealing it plays. I wouldn't have a clue where to start if it all went wrong. Just in case there are any unforeseen problems, much better to have someone who has at least done it before.
Anyone fancy the job? ::)

Yes, it is scary, but its actually not too bad if you plan it right.
No need to rush - do tank/filler one weekend, front end another weekend.
There is nothing hard, and there is a lot of knowledge here on the Stag kits.
Mine cost approx £580 from memory.

Ok - You have sort of convinced me. :y
I will be away from tomorrow for a week but I would be grateful if I can pick this up again on my return.
In the meantime a list of the best places to buy the kit and any other good advice would be appreciated.
Finally has anyone posted a DIY guide on the forum?
Many thanks for your input...

Teilo was always a good supplier, but after he was unable to reply to my correspondance, I ended up purchasing it from ebay...

Teilo is, as James said, the person I would recommend you using (PM on it's way ;)) but he can be hard to get hold of. If you have the time to be patient it's worth it as his kit price includes everything you need (apart from some bolts sometimes) and is very competitive.
There are quite a few on here who have converted DIY and, as James said, if you can change the Timing belt you're perfectly capable of doing an LPG conversion... It's not particularly complicated if you tackle it methodically. I'll be writing up the V6 guide in the next few days but if you read the 4 Pot guide in the Maintenance Guides section you'll get an idea :y

James - Lazy. Many thanks for the info.
lazydocker - Look forward to reading your writeup when I get back...

What's the maximum tank size that would fit in a saloon with Bose shelf?
Newhouse, I think we are probably quite local to each other so could possibly help each other out?

If you fit a standard, torpedo tank I believe you can get a 100L tank in... I've got a 90L (400mm Diameter) tank which, although fiddly to actually get in, fits fine under the shelf when in place... The 100L (400mm Dia) tank would also fit, although it would need to be a fraction (about 30mm or so) further rear than mine sits.
For ease of fitting I would still advise an 80L tank TBH... The mounting bolts come out in a better location than the 90L ones :y

VXL V6 - I'm up for a little local co-operation. I'll PM you when i start the project.
Also, Good question... I would like to know the best option for the estate. I understand that it could be a little restrictive on size, having to fit in the spare wheel well but I don't see the point of loosing the benefit of the load capacity of the estate. Just means a little journey planning before any long trips.
Shame you cant replace the petrol with an LPG tank and install a small petrol reserve in the wheel well.
Or can you?

Do they not share the same tank frame?

Nope... 90L is either longer or larger Diameter :y

Ah ok.... so the tank mounting frames vary in length as well, then! :y
I have a frame for a 400 dia 100l tank, it's holes come out in excellent locations, so I'm planning to also use this for my new 90l tank in the estate :y

You can, but you need a custom made petrol tank to use as the reserve. Also means you'll be more limited and reliant on LPG stations... At least when keeping a full size petrol tank you have a decent back up :y
Incidentally... Had another thought for estate tank options... May be possible to mount 2 Vertical Toroidal tanks either side of the boot, giving a half decent capacity. Not exactly a cheap option but it's a thought :-/

Yep... Length and width vary depending on tank length and diameter ;)
Of course... The mounting points can be moved, in as much as there's no reason you can't drill new holes in the frame :y But fitting my 90L in a saloon, the tank had to be sat in the frame (but not secured) before the frame was bolted to the floor due to the Bose shelf... Other option is to remove the bose temporarily :y
