Can u test a dis pack whilst in situ instead of unbolting it & taking it out to do the test :-/
-
Quote from a post by MarksDTM "A crude method for testing your DIS pack is to unplug the knock sensor and run the engine, the retarded timing will result in a higher voltage being required to ignite the fuel and hence a weak DIS pack will often miss fire. Note though, this can be terminal to a failing DIS pack!"
-
Cheers RobG for the info :y
Being a confirmed 'retard' myself cud u put it in laymen terms :-[ :-/
-
You and me both still having misfire hell then, embarrassing innit, watching micras have you at the lights in a V6! :-[ ;D
Been thinking down the same lines too mate.
-
Hey John i DONT hav a problem with micras .......... its bloody cyclists that burn me off :-[ :-[ :-[
So you've not sorted yours out yet? Thort with all the money u pull in from your John Lewis stores u'd be traveling around in a Bentley :D :D :D
I've renewed virtually everything including the egr valve which didnt need renewing but my neighbour thort that the only way of cleaning it was to get a sledge hammer to get inside it ::)
The only thing left is the dis pack which was swapped with a used Bosh the previous owner bought when told by his mechanic that the misfire was down to the pack - trouble is the original one was tested on friday & its ok after all that >:(
So this is now definately the last thing i'll try before putting it on bloody ebay as spares & repairs & let sum other bugger have a go - pound to a penny they'll fix it for nxt to nothing >:(
Anyway i'll still buy another mig cos i luv em!! :y
-
Aye I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place - I have a 2.5 runner with a misfire I can't trace, but all other work done and MOT for 11months and a 3.0 elite with good engine that needs front brakes/crank sensor/tax/insurance/MOT in august! ARGGGGG!!! Whataguytodo.
Either way I don't think I'll be going on holiday this year.
(As for the John Lewis namesake thingy I used to work in London down nr Oxford Street, I used to look at the floor every day hoping to find a JL cheque :D Never happened though - or I would be driving a Zonda or Koenigsegg or something by now, haha. Well we can dream can't we..)
I was thinking about those coolant tester kits, anyone tried them to test out the HG condition? You know the ones that attach to the coolant bottle and change colour if exhaust gases are present? Is it easier to use your nose?
-
Mmmmm interesting thought :-?
Think these kits work out at about £30-£40 but last for a few tests - for the same price cud u not get some-one to pressure test the HG (mine was done by my neighbour who's a breakdown knight so cost me nowt :y)
S'pose u cud use your nose but it depends how u smell (do they have showers in Macc?) :D
As for the cheque u cud try John Lewis down the road in Handforth ;D ;D ;D
-
Haha you know this area too well!! Macc is wack.
Sniff test proved clear as day, coolant is completely fine (HBV leaking a tiny bit though but I knew that).
JL Handforth is ace, they treat me like royalty if I reserve something for pickup! ;D
-
Haha nice one ;D
Tried that with B&M Bargains but they told me where to go (and they didn't mean directions!) ::)
You realise we're not alone in our quest to rectumfy ( :D) our MISfortune cos i've had a sound guy by the name of 'Varche' pm with the same probs. His, it appears, is down to his dis/coil pack being knackered + a lead :(
The most delightful 'Lizzie Zoom' (can u imagine being with such a stunning looking lady who's a mechanic as well :-*)
suggested to me about testing the pack at night in the dark to see if there's any arcing with sparks which points to a knackered pack!
So tonight tomorrow i'll take off the scuttle in preperation for a night time Guy Fawkes display & if it is the pack i'll replace it with the original one mistakenly taken off as it's a-ok :y
Oh the elation will be beyond belief IF i can get my mig working & back on the road again in all its glory 8-) ;)
-
Yeah right there with ya - just added you to my buddy list as we're both MISFortunate..my mate suggested the night time show, I think its either number 5 lead or DIS pack but my guy is fed up taking the car apart now so I've ran out of favours!! Might have to invest in a torque wrench and box spanner set methinks ;-)
Good luck, will be watching with baited breath!
Ta J
EDIT: PS I reversed into a wall outside B&M yesterday, car fine, wall not so good, LOL! Cheap coffee in there though :D
-
Hia 'Buddy' :y
U can also get mucho cheapo 'bargains' in there ...........
as long as u don't tell anyone where u got them from :-[ :-[ :-[
-
Haha defo. Spotted an air compressor in there for 3.99, might have to give it a whirl :)
