Post by: bongocraig on 21 May 2010, 00:03:33
Hi all,
i have a problem with my T/C light staying on when it loses traction on the road for a few seconds, i.e when pulling off fast  on gravel, and i a cannot switch it off again until i switch of the engine.
please can anyone advise on any common faults with these symptoms.
thanks in advance,
craig

ecu's are known to fail on earlier cars, but not sure your symptoms are the same. Weird one.

Any other problems with abs or speedo? all run by the same ecu.

Should add i've no experience with any of these faults so may well be barking up the wrong tree.

There are threads relating to a company called BBA reman, do a search you should find.  Location is passenger side engine bay, bit fiddly but doable. again do a search and hopefully you shall find :y

Little tip, when removing don't be frightened to bend the brakepipes up a bit, helps to reach the akward screws. ;)

Ypu maybe able to source a second one of here - make sure you get same part number and year as your one - otherwise you need to talk to tech II to enable ecu to work - hope that makes sense. :-/

thanks!, i'll look into it, i've had a think about it and it only started doing it after the last lot of snow we had, the t/c light only comes on if i give it a bit of throttle on gravel,so the wheels spin, its not on all the time and switches on and off as normal until i do the above.
i have no abs lights come up and speedo is normal.
its more irritating than anything, the other alternative is drive around with it off!!!

It sounds as though the ecu is on its way out though, it may not give you any trouble now but one day it'll leave you with very heavy steering, no speedo and no abs so it's worth researching now and maybe getting a second hand spare imho

I have got a very good one sat here, havent ebayed it yet as someone had first dibs on it who has now sold their omega so its available either as a supply only or fitting if you come to poole.

let me know if you need it and will get it arranged.

the question then:  will a 2001  3.2i V6 Auto ABS unit be the same as a 1998 2.5 v6 unit.  i am assuming it will as does the same job.  if it is,  it will be an ideal way around things?
