Hi Guys,
Today noticed the Omega has a really high pitched squeal when the car is sitting at idle. The moment the accelerator is touched the sound disappears,
has me slightly confused, i'm sure it must be a belt, but that usually squeals constantly....
any help would be greatly appreciated.. Really wanted to go for a drive today, but now have a fear of damaging anything :(

Sounds like the aux belt tensioner, or something on the aux side...
-
sounds like a pulley bearing on tensioner :y

well without tools it will not be fixed until at least monday..
does anyone know if it is ok to drive? otherwise its the bus to go get shopping... crappy...

Dobra!! :y
My partners for-ever squealing at me for being idle, but that's another story ;D
Had the same thing on a Vectra few years ago & sounds as if the engines going to pack in! I carried on driving for a few days until i got it fixed without any damage caused ;)
I hold Bratislava very close to my heart cos me & my friend went out with 2 girls from there a few years ago 8-) 8-)

Might be risky if it is the tensioner. Mine was fine, started squeaking as I was driving , failed 5 mins later resulting in a long wait in the snow and flatbed recovery.

might be worth greasing the idler pulley baring. 15 mill spanner and a small flat blade screwdriver to hook the seal out on the inside edge and a dab or 3 of grease. :y
