I have an 03 plate 2.6 v6 omega auto which has been stood in my drive for about 2 years it has done 84000 miles .I ran it low on oil warning lights came on . It still starts and still runs but it sounds rattly when you start to accelerate. The garage wanted to put a new engine in about £2000 and car not worth that. May be one of the pistons has gone or big end. Have to decide if im going to sell it for parts or repair which id like. Has it got to be a new engine as someone has told me it might be possible to do the big end from underneath or is it a waste of time .any advice

A N Other known to be good engine would be plenty good enough, infact Daz has just replaced a 2.6 with a 3.0 block & used all the 2.6 ancillaries & drive-by-wire throttle etc I certainly wouldn't be buying a NEW engine for any car that's as old as even the newest Omega :y

Yep, a good s/hand engine would be the way to go. cost a few hundred quid. It will cost a fair bit to have it fitted though if you arent able to diy.
If you post up which area you are in its possible there may be someone who could asist/take a look/do the job cheaper than a garage. ;)

you can do big ends from underneath.
not easy though, as you must remove the front crossmember.
where are you ?
