Sorry guys, i'm sure these threads are a plague on the site, i've been reading threads and looking in FAQ but can't find the answer.
I have 2 Omegas -
'98 2 litre petrol giving the following fault code from the paperclip test -
10 3 3 5 1 6 9 10
'97 2 litre petrol giving no codes when I try the test? Does this mean it had no problem or is it too old for paper clip test?
I though all codes were 2 or 4 digit? If anyone can tell me what the code above means, I would be much obliged.

0335 and 1690
335 being the crank sensor...and needs fixing
1690 is just a light voltage issue - ignore it.

as for the other, try engine running / not running, think nothing can mean no codes, could always unplug the maf or something to generate an error to test :y

Alternatively the bulb has blown (or been removed to hide a fault ::))
AFAIK the only Omegas that don't respond to paperclip or pedal trick are the 2.2 petrol cars. My 1994 2.5 V6 responded to the paperclip (but wouldn't talk to Tech2 because it was too old)

2.0l can have 4 digit codes or 2/3 digit codes, depending on age. From memory, 2/3 digit code ecus always pump out a 12, 4 digit codes flash nothing if no fault found...

Thanks guys, i take it in this scenario that 10 flashes means 0?
The car is missing slightly every now and again so check the wires on the camshaft sensor and replace if nothing obvious wrong? What sort of money are these normally?

335 is crank sensor (340 is cam sensor)
so no, thats not the guide for you...
would appear we dont have a 4 pot crank sensor guide...maybe someone who has done it can advise...

Thanks Jimbob, I misread your post - crank sensor, ok.
Leafing through the service history I can see that the dealer recommended that the crank and cam sensors to be changed a while back, must check with the last owner to see did he just do the cam sensor....
What causes these to go? I've heard that the rocker cover gasket is a frequent problem, this has been replaced recently, would the leaking oil damage the sensors?

time and heat are the culprits really.

last owner confirmed that both sensors (cam and crank) were replaced in last year (5000 miles).....
a bit lost now - do i replace the sensor again or is something else at play?
What do you super-enwisened Omega owners think? ;)

be nice to get the car on a proper code reader and see if they are present or old, delete them and see what happens.
Where are you? may be someone local who can oblige.

I'm in Ireland but ya thats no problem to get them read. If they are old, then whats the normal next area of investigation?
The rocker cover gasket was replaced recently too...

This problem of misfiring has gotten worse - engine light on and rev limited to about 4300rpm - when it cuts out its hard to start again.
Going to code read again tomorrow, if it's crank sensor i'm going to send it down to the garage to have a proper diagnostic done and have it replaced.
Is it not unusual for these crank sensors to go after 1-2 yrs?

I've just (three days ago) replaced my crank sensor with a genuine replacement only to find that it too shows a repeated fault code >:( So, will have to take the bugger back off & get a replacement from the Stealers when they go back to work! It wouldn't be so bad, but the 2.2 has the sensor in the most god-awful place imaginable if you are
lucky unlucky enough to have Air Con fitted! :o ;)

Why do you say that out of interest?
The Cam snsor was changed by the last owner too...
The 0335 code is for incorrect rpm signal - is there anything else that could be the problem here?

Well dropped it down to the garage and they had the problem diagnosed in 5 minutes - coil pack had a bare wire and was arking off the engine ::)
New coil pack 95+vat, should pick it up tomorrow - expecting it to feel a hell of a lot better to drive.
