Title: blanking EGR. Good or bad. advise please
Post by: dave abra on 11 June 2010, 21:28:17
Hello

Have been reading other vauxhall forums and have found that blanking the EGR is a good idea as they seem to be faulty a lot. Also Vauxhall have an update on the Tech 2 which allows the car to run with out the EGR.

There is no mention of this on this forum and so can anyone help with advise.

I tried disconnecting the EGR whilst it is still on the car and it idled ok but engine management light was on.
Will this still happen if i blank the whole thing off. or would tech 2 update be needed.

Please please help.
Thanks in advance.

petrol should be ok to blank off.
someone will answer this better also try a paperclip test to see if there are any other faults lurking around

No updates from Vx to remove the egr on this power plant....plus they are pretty reliable.

But you cna blank it as the V6 does not monitor the MAF to detect to see if the EGR is operating as it has a built in position sensor

Sorry for my questioning but leave a gap where? Have not seen the insides of the sensor as have been unable to unscrew the egr yet as it doesn't have the normal bolts.

Also Is a drinks can good enough as a blank?

Drinks can tends to burn through after a while.

I use a piece of brass shim.

You need to keep a hole directly below the pintle so it still moves but block the other hole off

They're pretty normal for an Omega. ;)If you intend to work on your car, a set of Torx sockets might be a good investment  :y  :y

A Coke can would be great. Best thing you can do with Coke, throw it down the drain & use its can.  :y  :y  :y

but mine is 1/8" plate plasma cut  :y
