I have had this problem in the past and I am sure it was either the cam or crank sensor, think we had both done to be honest...... :)

Hi
I had this problem with my V6. No one knew the answer. Turned out to be the MAF. They are about £180 for a bosch or an unbranded part of ebay was about £30.
Hope this helps.

clean out the breather pipes, the thin one off thetop of the cam cover, also clean out the idler on the air intake, the thin pipe gose in the right side, need to remove the air intake 4 10m nuts, pull the pipe off and undo the bolt in to the bottom of the air intake a bit of weld wire should clean the hole out, as you have the idler off with the air intake clean it up with some petrol or carb cleaner get all the black carbon out so the pin can move, also clean the wire plug up, after all done put back all, should be working ok now, if you put a small fuel fillter in line with the small pipe should stop it bloking up again.

Samesame is right, I think. Even with a new IACV on ours, it still cut out sometimes until I cleaned out that little 1.6mm breather jet at the top of the inlet manifold.

Might sound a bit obvious but i'll give my input anyway!! :P
Had this on my 2.5 mig & it happened when the petrol tank was near empty (altho display showing 30odd miles to go!)
