Title: Help please 2.5 TD won’t start
Post by: markspark on 14 June 2010, 22:17:48
Hi guys and gals can you please shed any light on this problem I’m having when the car has been stood over night it is very hard to start it does turn over but does it for a long period of time there is a lot of smoke of various colours the car shakes like mad, it will eventually fire up quick rev and the smoke clears its then fine all day i.e. starts as normal. The glow plug light is coming on and going off as normal there is plenty of fuel in and when running can’t see any fuel leaks anywhere. This is the 2nd morning it has done it, have you any ideas
TIA

Most likely glo-plugs at fault. Not a big job to change, Inlet manifold has to come off, fit new seals when replacing. Glo-plugs may be available on trade card. Do a search, I remember someone changed some recently. I don't think there is a Maintenance guide.

HTH

good luck :y

Quite possibly glow plugs at fault.

But could also be the in-tank pump playing-up, especially if the fuel level is around the 20 litre mark.

if it's white smoke definite glow plug and yes they can go overnight.
only fit ngk as these last longer.
also try turning the glowplugs on a couple of times before starting :y
how did you get on with your fuel leak

Other brands are available - Beru are also OEM but steer clear of cheap ones on e-Bay

Does sound like glow plugs.
Go through the heating process a couple or three times before starting, you may find it'll start easier, but it sounds as a couple of them are faulty.
