2000 model i noticed in the right hand side recess panel,there was a mound of paper towels,a bit damp smelling,is this a usual problem?

right hand side of where? If you mean in the boot, behind where the first aid kit would live, then its damp cos you don't have an air flow through the car. The long vent in the rear parcel shelf (has a 'speaker' type grille over it) allows air to flow through to the boot, air flow should then go through this vent to outside.  :y

sorry yes i meant boot,right where first aid kit goes

would the vent get blocked then?
