Title: HBV Life
Post by: Martin_1962 on 18 June 2010, 09:00:28
I replaced my HBV last year, now I have a litre a day water leak from behind the engine.

What is the chance it is a HBV?

I think it leaks on thermostat open.

Could be one of the hoses to/from the HBV.

The hose from the coolant bridge (at the back between the heads, goes to the side of the HBV with the single stub) seem to be guilty of failing.  Someone else on here had that recently and I've had it too.

If you remove the scuttle you might be able to see where it's leaking once you get it warmed up.  A good rev usually shows the leak nicely.

If you take the air inlet hoses off the throttles you can see into the v... evidence of a coolant leak there should be fairly obvious if you're losing a litre a day.

Oil cooler was replaced last year as I had the engine in bits.

HBV was from a dealer and was new and has GM stamped on it.

The leak appears to be on the right side (drivers) at the back by the steam

Most likely a hose then, could still be anything though!

As said, take the scuttle out so you can see better.

Rear drivers side - HBV, HBV hose or coolant bridge.
