Title: HELP PLEASE - BALL JOINTS
Post by: dino on 19 June 2010, 17:04:47
Hi,

I have had a wobble through the steering and was told by VX that i needed new wishbones at the front.  Had this done and still had a wobble, took it to get tracked ect and was told that there was play in the offside lower ball joint.  Is this a part that should've been replaced when i had the other work done? Is the ball joint integral to the wishbone or is it a part that it seperate?  Either way i was told that this is an MOT failure and that VX should not have let it go out in this condition.
Any help and advice would be very helpful.

Hi
If you have paid for Vx wishbones and paid for Vx to fit them then I would be straight back to them and ask them to fix the problem.  The lower ball joint is part of the wishbone.
Its bit late to offer the advice now, but you would have been better off getting one of the mechanics on this site to supply & fit the wishbones.

Just to clarify the wishbones were fitted by vx but they were not vx parts, they were aftermarkets.  The genuine vx wishbones were quoted at £220 where as the ones i got were £70.

Although this may be a complicating factor the fact remains that, following the work necessary to repair the fault as diagnosed by your garage staff, the fault remains.

I would suggest that you take the car back and ask then to re-assess the problem with a view to having some form of discount on any further work necessary to rectify the problem.

It depends how long ago they were fitted and who supplied them. There are a number of cheap wishbones about that don't last 5 minutes but its normally the bushes that pack up. If Vauxhall supplied them, take the car back to them.

I suspect that's happened to mine - it had a new balljoint for the MOT before I picked it up, and now the wheel wobbles like a weeble (but doesn't fall down..) under light-medium braking, along with a nice 'klonk' from the front drivers wheel over bumps..

What do you reckon to these?

The klonk could be your drop links.

I'm thinking of fitting these to mine
