Title: LPG idle - back to the drawing board?
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 04 January 2008, 10:59:27
Went out this morning, for a little drive. Once the vaporisor hit 30deg she went straight onto gas. Drove for a while with no problems. Pulled back up afterwards, and the idle was hunting again, on gas only  >:(

Measured the battery boltage with engine running - just over 13v, and a little blip raised it a touch.

Maybe I wasn't closer to narrowing it down after all...

Given the pressure is OK, I'm wondering if there is a problem with the injectors. The software is reporting them as "too big" when calibrating, I just wonder.....

mine did the same this morning, went to gas just as the needle started to rise, drove fine.

Went to park, was not quite fully in the space on the first swing so into R to back out, and it was hunting on idle and was lumpy. Pop it in N, give the revs a blip, back in gear it was fine.

Maybe the extreme cold of late?  :-/

The outside temp definately doesn't help, but I am sure there is still an underlying reason...

I have noticed its takes much longer to get the car up to temp, now the plumbing has been re-routed!

Generally stays at 75 for most of the journey, just gets up to 80. I have to get it above 70mph before the temp rises to the normal 85.

I read somewhere else  :

old injectors when become warmer their impedance increase too much and become faulty.. :o

This can be tested via measuring their impedances from socket connections when they become warm (not completely hot)

ps: may be not applicable to LPG injectors as yours are new

I would still expect nearer or just over 14 volts so something is not right.

I think you probably are. Something is odd with the supply volts. If they're up and down, the LPG ECU will be chasing it with the injector duration to compensate for open/closing time.

True, but they were also maxing out under full throttle so I wouldn't go any smaller :-/

What injector duration is it running at idle (LPG and petrol)?

I would follow Mark's suggestion of an analogue meter on the battery. I suspect the volts are all over the place. Cold weather = more electrical load and poorer battery performance so it makes it worse.

I have run auto calibration a few times now and always the the injector message.
im not saying dismiss it, but just letting you know it isn't  just yours that flags it up.
I have found mine hunting a bit on idle when it is cold, not a great deal only by 150/200 revs, when it is warmer it is back to normal

I'm going to pop out with the laptop in a mo and see what the ECU see's the voltage as. As it stands, I don't trust the POS multimeter that I'm using!
