Title: Gillingham, HELP!!
Post by: Matthew Woodward on 06 July 2010, 14:45:03
Hi Guys,
Got a new crank senor coming but have only just moved here and have NO tools :(
Anyone around gillingham which can come to mine and fit the sensor?? I will of course compensate for anytime incurred.
Would drive the car but it breaks down every 5 steps :(

I think all you need is a Torx driver, cheap enough to buy one.  ::)

one end plugs in just under the scuttle, the sensor itself is next to the oil filter.

1 torx bolt.

I don't think it is reachable without the jack.

Good luck.

Do NOT, REPEAT NOT, go under a car only on a jack.

I buried a mate some years back who did. The "witness" marks on the underseal showed he died in agony trying to claw his way out.

DON'T DO IT

My friend these jacks slip  all the time and it is a reasonably heavy car and if you jack on asphalt it is guaranteed to indent into asphalt and slip, not good at all as it happened on my wife's car at our house.

The area you will be working around is pretty tight and you don't want to knock the jack and support off either.

I would not go under the car without a good surface (concrete, etc.) to support the jack stands or ramps as appropriate.

Cheers and good luck.

Get it as high as possible with the side jack then can`t you get hold of any concrete blocks to whack under it

Please take note of the warnings others have posted or you may have no breath at your disposal! My jack stripped its thread while nearly at the top of its travel & the car came down so fast I didn't have time to react, luckily all I got was a bruised knee. If i'd been under the car, i'd have been dead & buried for 6 weeks now! Oh, & DONT chock the car on 'concrete blocks' unless they are the steel reinforced type!  ;) :y

If you want to save money and do the job yourself .. and it is an easy job....  just pop into your nearest Halfords or Machine Mart and buy a pair of axle stands

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_216002_langId_-1_categoryId_165727

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cax-3tbc-3-ton-axle-stands/path/axle-stands-car-ramps-2

less than £20 and could save your life ???

Bricks or concrete blocks under a car can shatter, wood is he preferred method..

Jesus I near had a heart attack when he said he was goin under the car using the standard jack!!! only last week mine slid off it when changing a wheel.

Just in case you are still considering it DONT. As said get yourself a 2 tonne trolleyjack and axle stand set for £20-30. These will last for years( mine are going strong 5 years later).

Its not a hard job and torx tools can be had for a couple of quid, the satisfaction of saving a bomb is a good feeling. 1.7 tonnes of Omega on you might not feel so good though.
