I don't think the front valve on the Multiram system is working, the one in the big block on the inlet trunking. There's no vacum leak, i've checked thuroughly and all the pipes are connected. The one at the rear of the plenum is working OK and the one at the front in the block in the inlet system will open and close if you put piece of pipe to it and suck so the diaphram seems OK so i suspect that the electro/vacum solenoid is faulty.
How can i check the electro/vacum solenoid is OK ? can it be switched on/off by running + and - from the battery while the engine is running ?
Is the front electro/vacum solenoid the same as the one on the rear of the plenum ?

Cab be activated via tech 2 if that helps? Pm an Admin on here.
But are you sure there is not a problem with the wiring to the plug or similar? Sounds like you've been through all that though...?
-
Is it flat below 4k and takes off above 4k? If so def not working ime.
-
Yep flat as a flat thing below 4000rpm, no vacum leaks, tickover stable although it's higher than it should be but it's always been high anyway.
-
As I remember the rear multi ram solenoid activates at 1000rpm ish... the front at 4000rpm... :-?
In which case at 4000 rpm you should feel the car start to surge..
I would try another front solenoid in mate if the pipe are all routed properly :y

Are the front and rear solenoids the same or are they different ?

Exactly the same :y
Brand New about £30 from Vx :y :y

Don't happen to know the part number do you ?
-
Sorry mate I don't but if you did go into Vx they would be able to tell you :y

OK will do :y
-
Steal it from the Secondary Air Injection (just behind the radiator). That will be the same solenoid, and on 'most' cars of that age, the SAI doesn't work anyway.
-
Yeah i thought about that and seeing as mine actually works i know the solenoid is OK. I'll give it a go in the morning :y
-
Right, a little update. I've swapped the solenoid from the SAI for the one on the front Multiram and the SAI is still working but i still can't see the front Multiram moving though. I've driven it and it feels slightly better but still a little flat below 4000rpm.

Is it worth sticking a meter on the plug electrics while reving it? Note, I am a numpty with electrics. ;D
-
You getting your ass to Oxford on Sat?
-
Could do, problem is trying to hold the probes on the terminals and flick the throttle at the same time. I'll have to wait until someone comes a visiting me thinks :y
-
What sort of voltage would i expect to find ? 12 volts or less ?
-
Guess so, would expect to see it switching as the ecu tells it to activate. :-/
-
I am pretty sure someone with a Tech2 can activate them :y
-
Oxford meet not far off. :y
-
If it's 12volt I might try and rig up a bulb or led if i get time tomorrow and check if it's switching on/off. If not i'll leave it till the Oxford meet on Saturday if someones going to have a Tech2 there.
