Title: Cat failing on a 2.2

Emmisions light came on so went to the garage to get the codes read. Cat below threshold was one and the other was something to do with oxygen sensor reading as a result. Anyway my question is - with the car being due for MOT in a fortnight does anyone know how much a second hand Cat will cost me and how much to fit it. :y

What exactly were the codes?

Cat efficiency only referes to the precat.....not the main cat and hence should not affect the emmisions

On a 2.2, aren't the sensors each side of main cat?

Could be a sensor issue.  If a new cat does need fitting, better off getting a 2nd hand genuine one than a crappy pattern one. Just ensure flexi is still OK.

Did the garage not do any further diagnostics other than read some stored codes :o

I would only replace the cat if it's failing MOT emissions - after ensuring it's running correctly, at the right temperature with no fuel trim issues, etc.

Is there anyone from the forum near Hull who could help me with the diagnostics / live data etc... Like I say, mot looming quickly so I would have to be 100% before paying out for a new cat. :'(

As earlier mentioned in this thread, where are the sensors on the 2.2 and is 'cat below threshold' code reffering to the main or pre-cats ???

On my 2.2 there is one sensor before the pre-cat and one sensor after the pre-cat .
There is nothing after the main cat . :y

So these fault codes cannot determine if my main cat is failing, only that there may be something wrong with my pre-cat ?  How difficult are these to replace ? :y

If the cat efficiency code is bothering you for the MOT get the station to do an emissions test now before you go buying a replacement cat, or put it in for test in the month preceeding the due date.
If it fails you've got time to fix it, if it passes your MOT will be extended to 12 months from the due date anyway.
